While Don still builds on long-standing client relationships with his strategic planning expertise and wealth management skills, his focus now is mostly on succession planning for clients and directing the implementation of the accounting firm's vision.
In addition to being a founding shareholder in Clayton & McKervey, he has also been dedicated to advancing the profession of accounting. Don was instrumental in developing the firm's Achieving Success Together (AST) program, which creates partnerships with other accounting and consulting firms to strengthen the services provided to clients. Where Clayton & McKervey has made a strategic decision not to offer specific services - such as business valuation, investment banking or SEC filings - the firm taps into a well-established network of skilled professionals that Don and the other shareholders have cultivated over the years to ensure the client gets "best in class" service.
Don observes that right now, there's a growing need among middle market businesses for multi-state and international tax saving strategies, which Clayton & McKervey has offered for many years - putting the firm ahead of the traditional professional services curve.
A member of Vistage (formerly The Executive Committee - TEC), Don received the Vistage Michigan Ambassador Award in 2010, as well as the Soaring Eagle Leadership Award from the group in 2000 and 2005. Don served as president of the Association for Corporate Growth for the 2001-2003 terms. He is active in the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants, and has chaired its Accounting and Auditing Committee.
A graduate of Walsh College, Don has been honored by his alma mater with two distinguished awards for exceptional career achievements and presently serves on the Walsh College Board of Trustees. Don also presently serves on the Board of Directors for PKF North America, a network of legally independent member firms with representation in over 80 North American cities. As an active member of Automation Alley, Don is the current president of the International Business Services Advisory Council and serves on the Board of Directors for Automation Alley.
In his free time, Don enjoys traveling, playing golf, scuba diving, and spending time with his family and grandchildren, who have him riding roller coasters again.
