A master at interpreting tax legislation and its myriad applications, Margaret Amsden often works with client so they realize the best tax advantage. Her clients range from business owners in manufacturing, service-based industries, and real estate to individuals with high net worth. At Clayton & McKervey, P.C., she's often consulted by other shareholders about complex tax issues and to ensure compliance for their clients - thus providing a higher level of service.
Backed by a family of teachers, Margaret believes in educating her clients about "why" things are done certain ways. As a result, clients learn about the rationale of her advice that concerns their businesses or personal finances. She speaks in clear terms without using accounting and tax jargon. She's the lead "go to" person when there's a question about complex technical tax issues, a troublesome IRS audit, or challenges involving an aggressive tax position.
Margaret leads by example. She enjoys giving her staff interesting work and tough challenges while she serves as their coach and teacher. Many think her middle name is "Mentor."
Her best asset may be the ability to see the big picture while still attending to the vital details.
Margaret is the Executive Director of AST (Achieving Success Together), an organization developed by Clayton & McKervey to create partnerships with other accounting and consulting firms to strengthen the services provided to clients.
A leader in providing cost-segregation studies for clients, Margaret has been able to identity and implement accelerated income tax depreciation deductions to generate significant cash flow savings. She has been quoted on this topic in Inc. Magazine (March 2006), and was published in Feedback And Warren, Gorham & Lamont's Loose Treatise Tax Ideas.
Margaret received her master's degree in taxation from Walsh College. She earned her bachelor's degree in industrial management from Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. She serves on the board of the Oakland County Boys and Girls Club and on the finance committee of InForum, a local professional group.
In her spare time, she enjoys golf.
