Involved discussion can be heard from one cube, and laughter in the other. A team consisting of managers, staff, and a shareholder are sitting in an open-doored office working together on a project, joking around, showing their comfort levels with each other. Clearly, Clayton & McKervey is not a typical CPA firm.

Clayton & McKervey consists of a diverse group of people. Focusing a lot of time on goals and the success of individuals helps the firm to continue growing. I entered into the work force directly from college, and although I did have a Master's degree, I didn't know a lot of important accounting concepts. The people here understood this and were always available to help. The friendly personalities aided in this; I felt comfortable with everyone right away, thus was never afraid to ask when I needed help. Also, I was surprised to see how many different and interesting training sessions the firm sponsored for the employees.

Clayton & McKervey actively assists in the difficult task of balancing work and personal life. Speaking from personal experience, I'm a morning person, so I am able to come in early to work and leave early. Some of my co-workers, who don't feel their best in the early mornings, come in later and leave a little later. This aspect of flexibility is nice to have and aids in the work/life balance.

One of Clayton & McKervey's key goals is to promote fun. This goal took full effect during tax season. Now, you may be questioning this, tax season and fun? Can these two words even be put into the same sentence? Well, I have had the opportunity of being with Clayton & McKervey through two tax seasons and both have been fun. Of course hard work is involved, but the firm makes the extra effort to keep the morale up. We have had massage therapists visit our office once a month during busy season, along with dinners and lunches provided once a week. We've also had a concierge service to run various errands consisting of washing cars, purchasing groceries, and picking up/dropping off dry cleaning. This proves to be a huge help when working the long hours of tax season.

It has already been proved that Clayton & McKervey is one of the "coolest places to work" by Crain's Magazine. The diverse staff, open co-worker relationships, balanced work/personal life, and fun atmosphere at Clayton & McKervey makes this possible!
