Federal Tax Update 2011

January 2011

At a special CFO/Controller Roundtable, Margaret Amsden discussed important tax changes stemming from the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010. This Act was signed into law by President Obama on December 17, 2010.

The Act extends the Bush-era individual and capital gain/dividend tax cuts for all taxpayers for two years. In addition, this Act provides for a one-year payroll tax cut, extends bonus depreciation and other expiring provisions, provides an "AMT" patch, and adds some certainty to the estate tax for the next two years. The following article describes the Act in more detail.
